Clutch release new song ‘Evil’ as part of Weathermaker series.
Clutch have released a new song, a cover of the Willie Dixon and Howling Wolf song Evil as part of the Weathermaker Vault Series. This series is believed to be a series of cover songs, though nothing has been confirmed by the band yet. You can listen to Evil and watch the lyric video below.
Frontman Neil Fallon comments, “We’ve had a good amount of downtime since our last tour. And since the devil finds work for idle hands, we kept ourselves busy by recording some tunes. “Evil” is the first of them, a song we’ve loved for many many years.”
Evil (Is Going On) was written as a blues song by Willie Dixon and seemingly originally played by Dixon and Howling Wolf, though Howling Wolf’s solo version is the better known. The rock version of the song was popularised by Cactus when they released their cover in November 1971, however a very similar version was played live and recorded but not released by Eric Clapton‘s band, Derek and the Dominos earlier in May 1971, which seems to have inspired the Cactus version. Since then the rock version of the song, usually shortened to just Evil, has been covered by Dee Snider‘s Widowmaker, Monster Magnet, Greta Van Fleet and many others.
Later this week, Clutch will also embark on a short run of European dates.
